Non-Emergency Patient Transport Alternatives
There are three possible outcomes following assessment for eligibility:
• You qualify for NEPTS and your journey will be booked.
• You do not qualify on medical or mobility grounds, but you may be entitled to financial assistance.
• You do not qualify on medical or mobility grounds and will be signposted to other possible options.
Financial assistance
If you are not eligible to receive transport and are receiving income support or other qualifying benefits, you may be eligible to claim back some or all of your travel costs through the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme.
The Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme provides financial assistance in meeting the cost of travel to and from NHS appointments. Please call 0300 330 1343 or find out more on the NHS UK website.
Other possible options
Alternatives that you will be signposted to by PTAC call handlers may include public transport, local volunteer groups, subsidised local minibus groups and similar. Many volunteer groups require a donation towards costs at a pre-specified level.
